Eating halal in Kuala Lumpur

In Malaysia halal is a state label: the **JAKIM** logo, one of the strictest in the world, is displayed at the entrance of certified venues — so there is nothing to guess. Bukit Bintang and Jalan Alor hold the street food, Kampung Baru the family Malay cooking, Brickfields the Indian side. One caveat: "no pork" is not "halal", and uncertified chains exist too.

Where to pray in Kuala Lumpur

The National Mosque (Masjid Negara) and Masjid Jamek sit in the city centre, and a prayer room (*surau*) is provided in almost every shopping mall, station and office building — usually signposted with a pictogram. It is one of the easiest cities in the world in which to pray.
