💡 Practical tips

🏨 Where to stay

A medina riad for immersion (arrival on foot), Guéliz/Hivernage for calm and taxis.

💶 Budget

Very gentle: hearty meals 3–8 €, decent riads from 30–50 €/night.

🚕 Getting around

Petit taxis with the meter (insist) or a price agreed BEFORE boarding; the medina is walked.

🤝 Souks

Bargaining is part of the game: smile, halve or third the first price, never get angry.

👩 Solo women

Doable and common; hassle is verbal, mostly around Jemaa el-Fna — a firm « la shukran » does it.

🌡 When to come

March–May and October–November. Summer tops 40 °C: sightsee early morning only.

Eating halal in Marrakech

In Marrakesh, halal is the norm: tanjia and mechoui at historic spots, family tajines in the medina, rooftops at sunset. On Jemaa el-Fna, pick the stalls busy with local families; freshly squeezed orange juice is an institution.

Where to pray in Marrakech

The Koutoubia towers over the city and every derb has its neighborhood mosque. Non-Muslims may not enter mosques in Morocco (rare exceptions like Hassan II in Casablanca); Muslim travelers are of course welcome.
