Is fish gelatine halal?

Fish gelatine is extracted from fish skin and bones. Since fish is halal without ritual slaughter, its gelatine is too — the unanimous view across all schools, including the Hanafi school (fish being permissible for everyone).

You will find it in halal marshmallows, certified gummies and supplements. On labels, look for “fish gelatine” spelled out: plain “gelatine” almost always means pork or beef.

It is one of the three great halal alternatives to standard gelatine, alongside pectin (E440) and carrageenan (E407) — no one has to give up gummy bears.
