Are marshmallows halal?
Standard marshmallows are made with pork gelatine. Halal marshmallows use fish or halal beef gelatine.
Classic marshmallows owe their texture to gelatine — almost always pork gelatine in mainstream brands. Standard marshmallows, and the mallow toppings on hot chocolates and cakes, are therefore not halal.
The alternatives are excellent: halal marshmallows made with fish gelatine or certified beef gelatine are widely available in Muslim stores and online, and vegan marshmallows (made without any gelatine) are another safe option — just check for alcohol-based flavourings.
