A long train journey and prayer time approaching? Here is how to pray on the train, simply.
The essentials in 30 seconds
Pray at your seat, sitting, with slight head bows if you cannot stand — or, if you find a quiet spot, standing discreetly. As a traveler, you may shorten and combine your prayers.
1. Plan before boarding
Pray at the station before departure (some large stations have quiet areas) or on arrival within the prayer's window. Combine dhuhr/asr or maghrib/isha for a long trip.
2. Praying seated at your place
Pray sitting, facing the qibla as best you can (our qibla tool), with slight head bows for the movements.
3. Praying standing in a quiet spot
If the train is not crowded, or in the space between carriages, pray standing discreetly, keeping your safety in mind. Lay down a jacket or a small mat.
4. Wudu
Do your wudu before boarding if possible. Otherwise the on-board restrooms; if genuinely impossible, tayammum.
